Quite possibly the first quote from a man on PAFW. Taken from Amnon Buchbinder’s interview of Philip Shepherd and his ideas surrounding the brain in our belly. Continuing our theme on the illusion of control, aka boxes.
Shepherd: A problem arises when your ideas distract you from your experience.
Buchbinder: That’s the tyranny of ideas.
Shepherd: Yes. The way to escape it is the process of self-achieved submission that [Joseph] Campbell describes. It’s called a “heroic” surrender for a reason, because it takes courage. It also takes faith. You’re sacrificing the illusion of control. But it’s the only means by which you can come home to your self and truly feel in unity with all that is around you.
Have you read The Way of the Screenwriter by Amnon Buchbinder? I’m writing a screenplay and am wondering if that book might be helpful. N.
I haven’t but the book is mentioned in the intro to the interview! Good luck
